A Little Improvisation Never Hurt Anyone
2 min read

Have you ever made plans on a Wednesday evening that were so spontaneous you barely had time to think about what you were wearing?
Well, I have.
And apparently, Wednesday had a few surprises of its own.
It started with dinner.
Nothing particularly complicated. A lovely place, good food, pleasant conversation, and one of those evenings that somehow becomes much more entertaining than you expected.
Especially when someone suggests a little competition.
The rules were simple.
Look at each other across the table and see who gets nervous or blushes first.
Easy, right?
Absolutely not.
I lost.
Rather quickly, actually.
And before anyone questions my competitive abilities, I would like to point out that the person sitting opposite me was being spectacularly unhelpful.
The smile.
The eye contact.
That ridiculously calm expression.
Honestly, how is anyone supposed to win under those circumstances?
I tried to look perfectly composed.
Very grown-up. Very sophisticated.
Unfortunately, my face had other plans.
And he noticed.
Of course he noticed 🤭
Anyway, the evening was lovely.
And then came Thursday morning.
You know those mornings when you look at your outfit and realize that yesterday's perfectly good fashion choice needs a little creativity today?
Well, apparently, I was having one of those.
The black skirt was staying. That much was decided.
But a Thursday morning called for something a little more relaxed.
Enter an oversized white shirt.
A few rolled-up sleeves, a little knot at the waist, a different hairstyle, and suddenly the whole thing looked like an entirely new outfit.
Quite convincing, actually.
I even stopped for a smoothie, which made the whole morning feel wonderfully ordinary.
As though Wednesday hadn't been quite so unexpectedly lovely.
Although the silly smile probably gave me away.
I quite like that.
The little improvisations.
The unexpected plans.
The way a perfectly ordinary Wednesday can leave you smiling on Thursday morning.
And the fact that sometimes the best stories aren't the ones you planned to tell.
They're the ones that happen while you're busy enjoying yourself.
As for the competition?
I still think the rules were unfair.
And if there's ever a rematch, I'd appreciate it if my opponent could be just a little less charming.
Purely for competitive reasons, of course 🤍
