Apparently, Autumn Had Other Plans
1 min read

I packed for autumn.
A sweater, a jacket, and the perfectly reasonable expectation that October would behave like October.
Apparently, the weather had other plans.
Somehow, an unexpected weekend away turned into two days of sunshine, sea air, long walks, and the kind of warmth that makes you wonder whether spring has accidentally returned for a little visit.
I'm certainly not complaining.
Especially when the company is lovely.
There's something about a spontaneous escape that makes even the simplest things feel a little more fun.
Finding a place to have lunch. Walking along the water without checking the time. Laughing at jokes that become progressively less funny and, for some reason, make you laugh even harder.
And then there's the restaurant incident.
I was feeling rather confident when I ordered my food in a language that clearly wasn't cooperating with me.
The waiter paused.
I repeated myself.
He smiled.
I tried again, this time with what I believed was an excellent pronunciation.
He started laughing.
I'm still not entirely sure what I said, but judging by his reaction, it wasn't on the menu 🤭
Naturally, this became the joke of the afternoon.
And possibly the entire weekend.
But that's what I love about these little escapes.
Not everything has to go perfectly to become a lovely memory.
Sometimes it's the unexpected detours, the silly mistakes, the smiles exchanged across a table, and the pleasure of having nowhere else you'd rather be.
No elaborate plans. No particular rush.
Just the sea, a little sunshine, and someone to share the funny moments with.
As for autumn, I hope it doesn't mind me borrowing a couple of days from spring.
I'll return them eventually.
Although I might need one more afternoon by the sea first.
And perhaps another attempt at ordering lunch.
Preferably with someone else doing the talking this time 🤍
