I'm Glad That Happened

2 min read

I've been thinking about something lately.

How lovely it is to look back at certain moments in life and simply think...

I'm glad that happened.

I'm glad I said yes to that coffee.

I'm glad we walked through those streets without worrying too much about where we were going.

I'm glad we laughed at things that probably weren't particularly funny to anyone else.

I'm glad we shared songs, silly videos, wonderful dinners, and conversations that somehow made hours feel like minutes.

I'm glad I tasted that ridiculously strong cheese, even if my mouth nearly filed a formal complaint 🤭

I'm glad I stayed a little longer.

And yes, I'm glad about the kisses too.

All of them.

Even the ones that would probably have exceeded the legal limit, had anyone been sensible enough to establish one.

I remember the little things.

The unexpected rain.

The smiles across the table.

The way I could feel completely safe from the world for a little while.

And I'm glad I got to be that version of myself.

The one who couldn't stop smiling.

Who wanted five more minutes.

Who was affectionate, playful, a little ridiculous, and completely comfortable being herself.

Of course, life doesn't always finish its stories the way we imagine.

Sometimes conversations end differently than we hoped.

Sometimes there isn't a perfect final exchange, or even a proper goodbye.

And perhaps that's okay too.

Because the way something ends doesn't have to erase everything lovely that happened before it.

The laughter was real.

The happiness was real.

Those little moments mattered.

And I don't think we need to make them any less beautiful simply because life eventually moved in another direction.

I suppose that's the thing about being a romantic.

I don't particularly enjoy rewriting happy memories into sad ones.

I'd rather keep them exactly as they were.

Little treasures from a chapter of life that once made me smile.

I'm glad that happened.

I really am.

But just because something was beautiful doesn't mean I wish to live it all over again.

Some memories are lovely precisely because they belong to another time.

And I'm perfectly happy leaving them there.

And somewhere along the way, life kept giving me beautiful reasons to smile.

New memories, wonderful adventures, and all those little moments I love turning into stories.

Apparently, being a hopeless romantic is one habit I have absolutely no intention of changing 🤭

I'll always be glad that happened.

And I'm just as glad for everything that came after 🤍
